BIOGRAPHY | KATE MARCH, Ph.D. Dr. Kate March is an American multi-hyphenate artist now based in Charleston, South Carolina. She received her Ph.D in Performance Studies from the highly acclaimed Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts London - 2024). Additionally, she has her BA in Dance from Connecticut College (summa cum laude) and her MA in Choreography from Middlesex University in London (Highest Distinction). An internationally acclaimed artist, her work has been described by various media outlets as visionary, immersive, provocative, feminist, and courageous. Currently, her research is dedicated to exploring endometriosis and related female pain through an embodied creative practice. Dr. March is the founder and creative director of the feminist performance collective MARCH Art House formerly known as I AM. A global pioneer in immersive performance experiences, MARCH's public works marry dance, theatre, improvisation, and other art forms. Previously with I AM and now with MARCH, she develops innovative and experiential performance concepts; redefines dinner entertainment as contemporary fine art; and dynamically explores the relationship between audience and performer through intimate site specific interactions.MARCH performs across the world including a variety of unique projects in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, China, Australia, Maldives, Japan, India, England, and America. Notably, her most commercially successful work An Evening of Meat was performed in London at the Vaults theatre for a 55 show run in March 2018 generating over 40 articles and/or reviews. In addition to her group work, Dr. March explores her artistic voice through a wide range of artistic expressions. Firstly, her live painting performance solos, where she creates large scale paintings with her body dancing on canvas or wood, have been commissioned internationally and for celebrity clients. She has performed painting performance solos around the world in places like the National Arts Club (NY); Ivy Brown Gallery (NY); Chef’s Club (NY); White Room Gallery (NY); Art Mecca of Charleston (South Carolina); The Four Seasons Santa Fe (New Mexico); The Hive (Tokyo, Japan & Singapore); SohoHouse (Mumbai, India); and Art Central Art Fair (Hong Kong). In 2019, her work was commissioned by BMW in Hong Kong. In the same year, she was selected as the guest artist for the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation’s Center for Art & Culture in Portugal for their International Festival of Performative Arts where she shared 25 new works and also created a live painting for the public.
Outside of MARCH Art House and her painting performances, Dr. March explores her artistic voice through passions for performative monologues, dance on film projects, theatre production, and academic lecturing (College of Charleston, Connecticut College; Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts; Middlesex University; Medical University of South Carolina). In 2015, Dr. March delivered a TEDx speech in Hong Kong which launched a series of inspirational speaking engagements. Ms. March's dance on film work UNDER | WATER featuring dance, fashion and dynamic cinematography has been selected for several Film Festivals in 2017. In addition to directing, producing, and performing in countless movement based concepts, Dr. March has also written, produced, and directed several evening length theatre pieces. One of which particularly premiered to great acclaim: Love Pings (HK Premiere October 2015; Singapore Premiere 2016 -- lovepings.com).
